Blog: Alien Worlds with Adam Crowl.
It airs Monday, September 30, 2013 at 8 pm. ET.

Posted: September 1, 2013

Every wonder what real aliens might look like? Maybe they might not even be recognizable. Recent studies have revealed that life might have evolved in such a way vastly different from anything we know on Earth. Tonight we will examine Starship Pioneer in Starship Century with Adam Crowl.

Adam Crowl is a designer for “Project Icarus”, the sequel to the 1970s “Project Daedalus”, which designed in detail an interstellar probe using near-term and extrapolated technology. The project is trying to update the 1970s technology assumptions and employ what has been learnt about nuclear fusion, computer science, materials and interstellar travel since then.

Adam has written several articles, mostly about interstellar missions and space colonization in JBIS, Journal of the British Interplanetary Society the last few years. JBIS contains refereed academic papers from all over the world on all aspects of astronautics. It has a particular reputation for exploring forward thinking subjects such as interstellar flight, exobiology and the search for extraterrestrial life

Now Adam J. Crowl will be talking about his participation in Starship Century with his article, Starship Pioneers. Please join Adam Crowl, Melissa and me Monday, September 30, 2013 at 8 pm. ET for an exciting discussion about Alien Worlds

Alpha Centauri & Beyond

What would happen if the Earth had to endure a catastrophe such as an asteroid strike or a gamma ray burst? How would that affect life here? Find out about the lurking dangers and what we could do about them. Discover the wake-up call that could have destroyed our blue marble. However, it made us aware of how vulnerable we are.

Comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 impacted Jupiter on July, 1994. This comet was previously designated D/1993 F2 and was anticipated to come close to Jupiter. The comet consequently broke apart before it struck Jupiter. No one, including its discoverer, could have imagined how intense and dynamic the impact would have been.

Blog: NASA -- Past and Future. Airs Monday, August 5, 2013 at 8 pm. ET.
By D. Wayne Dworsky
Posted: August 2, 2013

Imagine a world without NASA, when going to the moon was just a dream. We’d be sitting in the duldrums of the 1950’s with little more than some old Rock ‘n Roll tunes and the memory of a terrible war. It depicted a time devoid of the rich content of our modern day steeped with communication. NASA paved the way for that rich content, curtesy of satilite technology and the many products that resulted from NASA research.

The Apollo 11 Mission to the Moon, July 20, 1969 changed the way we think of space with the famous Neil Armstrong quote: “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” It was a pivotal event because it changed the course of science and science fiction movie plots from those dull alien worlds and alien characters to truly alien words and characters rich with depth. And it paved the way for satilite technology.

Join Melissa and me Monday, August 5, 2013 at 8 pm. ET for an intense discussion of NASA -- Past and Future.

Colonizing the Cosmos

Show Notes for September 20, 2010 Episode

Listeners may participate by calling into the live show at 646-378-0539 between 8 and 9 pm EDT., 9/20/2010.

We need to leave the Earth, not because we’re curious, but because we have to. It is a fact that something catastrophic will occur here in the future. It has happened before and it will happen again. Earth has been plagued with tsunamis, violent super-massive volcanoes, meteor strikes, magnetic polarity shift, major solar flare, quasars, black hole encounters and other unknown events. All this is beside the fact that Earth is on a collision course with overpopulation. Now Don Prescott raises the question in the preparation in his new book entitled, Is There Time?

Don Prescott’s Background: As a Fortune 500 aerospace executive for over thirty years and a planetarium program director for an additional ten years, Donald Richard Prescott has been planning and managing successful, complex operations for decades where strategic planning is an essential tool.

Sheryl Johnson on Star Talks interviews Don Prescott

Leaving the Earth will not be an easy task and may take hundreds of years. The preparations are staggering. Just thinking about a mission to Mars is mind-boggling. Leaving the Earth to colonize other regions in space, whether those are planets or satellites in our own solar system or voyages to inter-stellar space, we are going to be challenged, as a species, like never before.

Mars -- Are We Going?.

Show Notes:

September 13, 2010 marks the first Mars discussion segment. A lot has happened since the days of all those great Mars science fiction movies of the mid 90's. We will be discussing Mary Roach's new book, Packing for Mars. The great visionary, Thaddeus Howze, will be on hand to reveal all the secrets of the dusty, red planet.

Episode 5, Nanites and EMP – The World of Subtle Exploitation.

EMP stands for Electromagnetic Pulse, which could wipe out all electronics in the United States. In an interview on Fox, Newt Gingrich and Greta Van Susteren probe the author for details about the potential of a doomsday scenario. One Second After

Now Joseph Picard writes a trilogy with tiny devices that perform a menacing operation. In Joseph’s latest work, Echoes of Erebus, which just left the presses August 3, he portrays the antagonist, Erebus, as a malevolent collective, who is bent on destroying an entire population in order to fulfill a childish recollection.
